There have been a lot of changes going on in my life. In all our lives. Every day I repeat to myself, “This is my year; this year, things will be different.” I don’t know if I believe it yet, but I know conscientious, active, positive thoughts make a difference. My friend sent me some materials to help me meditate and practice mindfulness. I don’t always remember; I didn’t always have the time until I found an Alexa Skill, which basically wakes me up and starts my morning with 1 minute of mindful meditation.
This isn’t a plug; it’s helped me find peace with my breakup in the tumultuous sea that is my career and myself. Just understanding that sometimes I’m allowed to fail, learning to say No, and being okay with that.
I still use these free resources from UCLA that are great when I have more time, but I’ve really started to enjoy beginning my day with a quiet moment. From the app, “1-Minute Mindfulness is a beginner meditation skill that allows you to take a 1-minute break from the world around you and enter into a one-minute sound meditation.”
Many of us struggle to find even 1 minute of peace in our day, and this skill is for you. Practicing mindfulness improves both mental and physical health.
For me, that was and still is true. I’m trying to find the good every day. The joy in every interaction and being comfortable in the unknown. Meditation helps center me; it could help center you.
